Susan Hodges is a native of North Carolina. An accomplished pianist, she attended Appalachian State University on scholarship to study classical piano, but instead completed a degree in Music Business with minor degrees in both business and marketing. Her first position would be an internship with Roy Orbison’s widow, Barbara Orbison, at Still Working Music in Nashville. She was hired after a few short months and was given the responsibility of copyright management, international sub-publisher relationships and songplugging duties outside of the Nashville market.
Susan then moved to a position in the Writer/Publisher Department of SESAC assisting the VP of Business Affairs/Writer Publisher Relations. In this position, Susan assisted representatives in communicating daily with writers and publishers, event planning, travel arrangements and company promotion. In addition, she served on a board for NSAI, working with songwriters across America in grassroots efforts to preserve legislation in place to protect songwriters and their copyrights.
At this time, Susan met and married husband, Dan. Realizing the demands of a husband and wife at separate music companies and seeing her husband’s career beginning to flourish, Susan stepped off of Music Row to work for LifeWay Christian Resources, a Christian publishing house employing 2000. At LifeWay, Susan witnessed the print side of publishing. She began working as an executive assistant to the head of a department of 40 coordinators and consultants and was promoted within the year to a position coordinating and promoting nationwide training events targeting over 42,000 churches.
Susan eventually left the professional field with plans to be a full-time mom. While at home, Susan first built a transcription business, targeting medical offices. She would leave this behind to accept a position on a team of four as interim preschool minister at ClearView Baptist Church serving a roll of 500 preschoolers and their parents. In recent years, she accepted a position for Hodges and Associates preparing and editing mortgage fraud investigations during the onset of defaulted interest only loans in America.
In April of 2008, armed with a clear understanding of the industry and a strong professional resume, Susan assisted her husband in opening Dan Hodges Music. Susan is responsible for writer management and administration and general office management. Susan and husband, Dan, reside in the Nashville area with their three children, Josie, Lillian and Galen.
